Gold Farming Holywood style: World of Warcraft Movie announced

It had been circulating for some time but it is now official: A movie based on the Warcraft universe is in the works. Blizzard and Legendary Pictures will produce the film while Warner Bros will co-finance it and handle distribution. Not a bad team I 'll say, as it was emphasized that its going to be a big budget movie and not some lame-ass game adaptation like the really bad Wing Commander (I actually paid the admission ticket for this one back in the day), or the even worse Super Mario Bros(shitiest movie based on a game ever).

Will the warcraft universe undead look like the zombies from Evil dead. I sure hope not...

The director of the movie is going to be Sam Raimi who directed the Evil Dead series and the spiderman films. Not the worst choice but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I am not a big fan of WoW, in fact I don't like it, but I am always pro Big-Budget, Epic-Scale, fantasy movies so I hope they don't screw this up.

PETA Rediculous WoW Campaign

In stupid news, people with nothing better to do with their lives posted in the PETA blog in order to help create a movement to stop killing seals in World of Warcraft for digital fur. I never liked these people(well except the nude campaigns that is) but now I find them even more ridiculous now.

Apparently they are going to put some "evil" horde characters killing the seals and people joining the "fight" are going to stop them. I cannot believe what i am typing now....

From thir post
That's right, gamers, get ready: This Saturday, World of Warcraft (WoW) players will have the opportunity to combat a team of four Horde seal killers. We need your help to stop them from bashing in the heads of any more seals!

Thrall refused to ban the slaughter of seals, despite multiple requests from the Alliance to do so, because Orgrimmar stands to make a large profit from the fur.

Activists from across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor are banding together to put a stop to the atrocious seal slaughter. Anyone who slaughters baby seals for their fur must surely be in service to the evil Lich King.

Starcraft 2: Terra-Tron. April Fools day unit

In what most probably is an April Fool's Joke, Blizzard announced the new Terran unit, Terra-Tron. The unit is a really big compilation of other units and acts and works like a transformer robot. Blizzard's attention to detail extends even to jokes like this as the company released videos, screenshots and sounds from the "new".

UPDATE (more jokes)
Blizzard made a couple of more jokes today. The company announced a new feature for WoW called pimp my mount. In the same spirit a new Diablo 3 class was unveiled, the archivist.

Inmate sues Blizzard for identity theft

In what can only be described as yet another boggy legal dispute, between a guy with nothing to loose and a big company, an inmate sued Blizzard for identity theft. The guy accuses Blizzard for his addiction and for the fact that he lost touch with the real word (Isn't this a good thing...? I mean the guy is in prison).

Jonathan Lee Riches is reported to have filled many motions against companies excepting compensation as well against other 'entities' that are somewhat difficult to bring to trial such as "Adolf Hitler's National Socialist Party" and the "13 tribes of Isreal". If you can read his handwriting here is the hand written motion in pdf format.

MMORPGs: Not RPGs just boring game mechanics again and again

It is true that I am not a big fan of massive multiplayer online RPGs (MMORPGs). I am a big fan of computer RPG games though. How come, you might ask. It probably has to do with what I love about a good RPG such as Baldur's gate, Fallout, Final Fantasy, or Oblivion that I simply cannot find in an MMO. I like a good story and I like this story to be told in steps and to be firm. I like the character development to affect the gameplay and my part in the story. I like non-repetitive meaningful quests that feel truly epic. I like the character stats to say a little bit more about my character than be just numbers. I like being able to play the game at my own pace. All these are just things I simply cannot find in MMORPGs.

MMORPGs in their current form all they represent, is leveling and gear hunting. There might be a story but the game does not let you see it. There might be quests but all feel, and essentially are, the same(bring me 10 of x items and kill 5 of y monsters). There might be character development but the whole experience is ruined by talking to a fellow player that disregards your selection of skills or a friend that pushes you to level up to to go grind together. It is all about leveling. Ok, there might be a cooperative aspect that is enjoyable but even that can become frustrating. Your guild will have strict rules about raiding and you will be forced to play at other players' pace. If you just want to get in on your own and go do a group quest or a dungeon you will have to wait for hours only to find out that you do not like the people you play with. This was World of Warcraft for me. I got bored, I got fed up with it. I am not saying that there are no MMORPG that I like. There are and there are some that do not fall into the aforementioned “mistakes”. I guess though that these “mistakes” are simply game mechanics that are used to get players addicted. The majority will go into a frenzy to get one more level or one more epic item.

In less than two weeks WoW's latest expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, is coming out and I simply do not care. I do not care that I will be able to do the same sort of quests in new environments just to get 10 more levels and start the, get better gear, game all over again. Many friends of mine are pretty excited by the expansion coming out but then again they love all the things I hate about this game. I guess it is just a matter of opinion.
